Truly “Alami”
“Alami” means a “natural experience” in the Indonesian language, and that is exactly what we aim to do with our house reef. 10 years ago we established our house reef as a no-take natural area in cooperation with the local community and island government. Now our house reef offers refuge to numerous reef fish and reef creatures.
A variety of landscape and life right at our doorstep
Alami Alor’s house reef consists of different substrate mixes – from black sand with soft corals and patches of hard corals to areas with rocky terrain. In these various habitats you can a variety of life from nudibranchs, shrimps, crabs and juvenile fish to schools of diamondfish and trevally, mid-sized fish such as snappers and sweetlips and baby black tip reef sharks.
Sunsets at Alami Alor can be spectacular – even from underwater
In direct vicinity of our swimming platform and at only 3-5 metres depth you can encounter our colourful resident mandarin fishes. Visit them in the daytime to spot them darting between the volcanic rocks and sea urchins, then return at sunset for a chance to catch them in the mating ritual which makes for an excellent photo or video opportunity.
There’s So Much To Explore
Another major highlight for everybody is the small but busy cleaning station at 18 metres which offers housing for diligent cleaner shrimps, resident leaf scorpionfishes and moray eels looking out for free dental care.
House Reef Diving & Snorkeling- For Explorers and Underwater Photographers -
We always encourage our guests to try the Alami Alor house reef because we love it so much ourselves. How does it work? You just tell us when you want to dive and snorkel and go on your adventures. Our crew will prepare your equipment and help you into your gear. They also assist during entry and exit on our swimming platform.
For your first dive or snorkel session on the house reef, your guide will give you an orientation and accompany you for a tour. After that, you are free to dive and snorkel on your own without a guide. During your house reef explorations a member of our crew will supervise you from the surface and is ready to help if you need anything. House reef diving & snorkeling doesn’t get much easier than that!
